LGBTQ Meetup at PASS Summit 2018

In 2016, I organized an (unofficial) PASS Summit LGBT Meetup. It was a bit of a last-minute party, and more than once I found myself saying, “Worst case scenario, I’ll end up having a chill cocktail party with some friends.” Turns out, I under estimated myself: I sold out of (free) tickets, the room was at full capacity, we raised over $3000 for The Trevor Project, and everyone had a great time.

Later this week is National Coming Out Day (NCOD). Homophobia thrives in an atmosphere of silence and ignorance. Once people know that they have LGBTQ loved ones, they are far less likely to maintain homophobic, hateful, or oppressive views. I came out 15 years ago, and vowed to always be supportive of others in the LGBTQ community throughout their journey.

After not making Summit last year, I’m back this year, and hosting another LGBTQ Meetup.

Where and When?

I’ve booked the Butterfly Lounge at Grim’s Provisions & Spirits on Thursday, November 8, from 8pm-11pm. Grim’s is in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, nestled in the heart of the gayborhood. Capacity is limited, so please sign up below so I can anticipate headcount! We will have the Butterfly Lounge (upstairs) reserved just for us, and we’ll be able to overflow to the main floor if the Butterfly Lounge fills up.

This event is 100% free. There are a couple of friends of the community that are helping to make this event happen. I want to be completely clear–sponsors aren’t getting your names, they aren’t doing this for marketing. It really is pure altruism, to support both the PASS community and the LGBT community.

Once again, SentryOne will be sponsoring the bar🍹🍸. You’ll be able to turn in your Eventbrite ticket for a drink ticket, and get your first round on SentryOne!

While it’s free to attend, I am again asking for people to help me support The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people. For US youth between the ages of 10 and 24, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death nationwide. Please donate on my fundraising page, and help The Trevor Project continue their work helping these at-risk young people. Donate through my fundraising page, your donation could count for double! Brent Ozar Unlimited is going to match the first $5000 that we raise. You heard that right: If we hit my $5000 fundraising goal, Brent will match it with another $5000.

Whether you’re part of the LGBTQ community, or just want to hang out with us, register below. And don’t forget to donate.

UPDATE: I’m out of RSVPs for this event… Which basically means the private event space we have reserved is at capacity. You can still come, and I won’t turn anyone away! If our private event space reaches capacity, we’ll split off a group of people and take up residence in the main bar area. Next time, we’ll need a bigger venue–who wants to help me investigate venues for next year?
