(Unofficial) PASS Summit 2016 LGBT Meetup

PASS Summit has tons of opportunities to meet like-minded folks, in addition to seeing old friends. There are the Women In Tech and Birds of a Feather Luncheons. There is the Community Zone. Friends catch up over coffee and meals. There are vendor parties. There is SQL Karaoke.

This year, I’m organizing an LGBT Meetup

This isn’t an official PASS event–it’s just me throwing a cocktail party. Whether you identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, ally, friend, or any other label, come on down and hang out with some accepting database friends.

Where and When?

I’ve booked the Butterfly Lounge at Grim’s Provisions & Spirits on Thursday, October 27, from 7pm-10pm. Grim’s is in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle, nestled in the heart of the gayborhood. Capacity is limited, so I’ve set up an EventBrite.

After I tweeted about organizing an LGBT happy hour, my friends at SentryOne contacted me to ask if they could buy our first round of drinks. Heck yea! Big thanks for the folks at SentryOne for helping get the party started!

How much does it cost?

It’s free to show up (as long as you have a ticket). There will be a cash bar, and you can also order food for yourself if you’re hungry. I’ll also be collecting donations for The Trevor Project, an organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people. Donations are optional, but appreciated. You can also give online–I’ve created a donation page to keep track of the total raised.

One more thing

I take the PASS Anti-Harassment Policy very seriously. I hate that I have to say this–but this policy is in place for a reason. This meetup should be a safe place for anyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. If you witness or experience harassment, know that I’ve got your back.
